I am a qualified and experienced early childhood educator with 19 years under my belt, I am the treasurer of Te kōhanga reo ō Horouta, an adult student studying towards a "Master's Degree of Māori Studies", a Kaiako tutoring both adults and children in te reo Māori, and a māmā of an adorable 4 year old boy and wife. I created Ako Teach Te reo Māori waiata sessions to teach and support parents that are keen in learning the basics in Te reo Māori with and alongside their children. By supporting the parents/guardians to increase their confidence with te reo Māori , this will help to nurture the language in our children also

As a music and movement coordinator, I develop and lead classes which are designed to improve both gross motor skills, and listening skills of young children. Te reo Māori waiata sessions will allow children to learn about rhythm, beat, melody and tempo. Through waiata, basic concepts such as numbers, parts of the body, and colours are explored. The interaction with their peers encourages children to express their creativity, and build their self-esteem.

This also leads to participating in and to be part of their local community, which is incredibly beneficial.
